hair loss question

Postby john racello » Thu May 24, 2007 10:18 pm

Hi, I am new to this site. I just have a couple of questions regarding hairloss. I just want to know what to know what are my chances of going bald. I will give my ginetic trait.

I am 22 years old with thick hair, but my hairline is in the mature shape hairline, a little like an m shape. It is not noticiable at all, unless I am infront of the mirror, and i pull my hair really back.

My father is 52 years old and still has very thick hair all around accept a bald spot in the crown. He developed the bald spot between the ages of 44-50.

My 2 uncles from my dads side(my dads brothers) have all their hair and it is still thick. One is 44, and the other is 49.

My dads father (my paternal grandfather) died at age 65, but he stil had very very thick hair and not a single grey.

Now my mothers side

My 3 uncles from my moms side, 2 of them lost there hair and one of them is 72 and still has his hair.

my moms father(maternal grandfather) lost his hair

Given all these factors, what are my chances of losing my hair?

Thank you

Future Hair Loss

Postby body2hair » Fri May 25, 2007 3:40 am

john racello, it is really hard to predict the future hairloss, you are still young and my advise is not to get too bothered with hair loss as it may effect your life...in this age you should just enjoy life and enjoy your hair and not worry too much about your future hairloss, there are ways today to prevent future hairloss by taking medications like propecia and avodart, you can search for a local dermatologist and go for a consultation.

I agree with b2hair, and if it becomes a real issue when you rich your late twenties then you can start considering surgical solutions (after consulting of course)

Hi Shyla,

Propecia really works but is only for men. It's been found that Propecia can cause birth defects. Physicians advise pregnant women to not handle Propecia tablets, as this may harm male fetuses.

You mentioned you are pregnant. Pregnancy changes your entire body, and your hair is no exception. Many women experience hair loss during and after pregnancy. Pregnancy-induced hair loss is usually a completely normal and temporary problem. However, hair loss that is connected to pregnancy usually occurs after delivery. This occurs because of an increased amount of estrogen in the body. An increased number of hairs enter the resting phase, disturbing the normal hair growth and loss process and causing more hair than usual to fall out in the months that follow pregnancy.

If you feel that you are experiencing unusual hair loss now you are pregnant, this may be due to a vitamin or mineral deficiency. You need to eat better and take vitamins during pregnancy, which leads to healthy hair growth as well as a healthy body. It is best to get the problem checked out by your doctor to ensure it is nothing serious and to ensure you are receiving the proper nutrients for you and your baby.

John racello,

Don't worry with hair loss if you still have not this problem. But your case is similar to mine.
Your mothers side. If your maternal grandfather lost his hair you can also loose in the future. Pay attention to your hair sometimes. If you start loosing you can fight the problem since the beginning and have great chances of success.
