Propecia vs. Advodart...a hands on study-

Postby drewsturner » Fri Dec 31, 2004 1:36 pm

Hello:

I have been on propecia for one year and 4 months now. While the results have been good, I am about to try out advodart. Propecia's improvements seemed to plateau around the 7 month and have since maintained most of the existing hair in the crown. I wanted to try advodart because it claims to counteract two types of DHT, as compared to Propecia's one. I will update this post periodically in regards to changes in my hair, scalp, and overall improvements to see if there is really much difference worth noting.

Thank you. we need to see the data on Avodart, from our patients it is defiantly working and when some of them are swithcing from propecia it's stimulate their hair growth. although if you have good results from propecia it is recommended to stay on it.
please keep us update, maybe with some photos :)

Thanks, would you say switching to advodart is an unwise decision? Propecia has been working but wanted to try something else. I guess what I'm asking is switching in anyway detrimental to my hair? Also, if you can, elaborate on the minox. results.
Thanks,
DT

Thanks, I'm starting advodart tomorrow. I would encourage you to seek out Cole on the front area of your hair. I would almost rather have a bald circular spot in the back and keep thicker hair in the front. That seems to be the most cosmetic aspect of anyone's hair...the front area. Some hairs that fall out have a waxy buildup around the shaft...have you experienced this?

Been on Advodart a month now. Not much change although my hair has seemed to turn a little darker. No "softies" either!! I've been on saw palmetto for about nine months as well. Can't say if it is helping or not. Just added Stinging nettle but am skeptical. Propecia and advodart along with other meds are not the end all be all of miracle drugs for hair loss in the sense that they grow alot more hair, but they are definitely successful in maximizing what you have. This, added to HT's, is the best solution at the present. Advodart and Propecia are crucial, especially to those of you in early stages of hairloss. It could delay your loss substantially...

Been over two months now on advodart. Hair has stayed darker and texture is softer than what it was with propecia. There has been a few hairline hairs that have thickened and become longer. Have also added minox 5% once a day, stayed on saw palmetto, green tea, nettles, and a daily vitamin. Am going to add nizoral into the mix a few days a week as well. Beyond this, can anyone make any other recomendations? I've heard of people alternating each day from propecia to advodart, but can't say I would like to do this.

4 mo. on advodart now. Have witnessed less fallout (when brushing, washing, etc.) than propecia. The minox seems to be thickening my hair as well and nizoral has lessened scalp flaking. There has been sparse new hair growth along the hairline, but it is new hair, or at least hair that's growing back. If anything, my existing hair has taken a turn for the better and turned thicker.
